5 Things Thursday: Movie Tagger, DAM, Computers in Libraries

Here are five more things:

  1. Isn't it about time for Movie Tagger - an easy-to-use online system that allows a community of users to parse and add relevant keywords (“tags”) to movies–scene by scene, shot by shot, and frame by frame–with a custom logging tool?
  2. Aren't we all curators?
  3. Why is managing digital assets more challenging than herding cats?
  4. Learn about the Computers in Libraries conference from the Library Scenester.
  5. Where is DAM in your organization?

Metadata Monday: Busting Photo Metadata Myths!

David Riecks at Controlled Vocabulary successfully busted a dozen myths about photo metadata. From the false notion that metadata is hard to read or takes up too much space, to more complex matters like social media and search, this post covers all bases.

I particularly appreciate links to valuable tools such as METAmachine, a metadata browser which streamlines the process of adding or editing captions, keywords and other essential metadata in images or the useful META Tutorials on the PhotoMetadata site.

If nothing else, this post and all the content on this blog busts the myth that metadata is somehow beyond the grasp of the everyday user.

Metadata Monday: Using Aperture for Photo Metadata

Well, I am as guilty as anyone for focusing on Adobe Lightroom for photo processing and metadata editing as if it were the only tool in the world. Aperture by Apple offers professional features with the simplicity of iPhoto. And, the features offered for adding keywords and metadata are comparable to Lightroom.

This post on Light Stalking explains how to add metadata and assign ratings in Aperture. I like the search functionality as well as the ease of navigating and customizing the metadata panel. Also, the price of Aperture is quite nice at $79.99.
